Important note from July 2021
In early 2021 we rated CTemplar as the best email service in terms of privacy. Although CTemplar seems to us to be excellent on this aspect, it is obviously complicated to maintain these words considering that they lost all data and emails of all their users in July 2021. Ensuring data integrity and availability cannot be ignored, and is as important as confidentiality.
Anonymous registering and use
Become a ghost by signing up anonymously without a phone number or credit card. CTemplar does not record, monitor, store, log, or share anything you submit (including IPs).
Code transparency
Code is open source, which permit to guarantee the robustness of the algorithms and the absence of a backdoor.
Zero data access
Only you and your recipient can read your emails. Not even CTemplar can read your messages.
Your IP address is stripped from logs and metadata
All outgoing emails are untraceable to you. CTemplar does not know your IP, and use its own IP for all emails. Additionally, mailboxes aren’t linked to IP addresses in any way.
No data-retention policy, instantly deletion
Because CTemplar is based in Iceland, when you press ‘delete’ your data is instantly deleted.
(Dutch, Swiss, German laws require at least 6 months before emails can be permanently deleted.)
Strong off-shore jurisdiction
Laws in Island protect your data. Your emails are stored safely outside the 14 Eyes and Canadian & Swiss data sharing MLAT treaties.

CTemplar catastrophic incident of July 2021
CTemplar has undergone a catastrophic incident on July 2021 09 with complete data loss of all its client directory and all their emails.
Sever data loss as well as the absence of an effective back-up plan were observed.
Our opinion
CTemplar has everything to be best private mailbox, except its price and the dramatic lack of service reliability. Too bad.
