VPN services to avoid, with fake zero-log policy



While nobody here is defending the actions of criminals, cyberstalker, pedophiles and other of the kind it is important to recognize when a VPN service fails to uphold their “zero logs” policy and commitment to customer privacy, although they kept claiming to be have a “strict zero-logs policy”.

VPN to avoid, logging their users

VPN services that unduly claiming to be have a “strict zero-logs policy” were caught in court offering assistance to the FBI or local authorities.

PureVPN

VPN provider PureVPN provided information which helped the FBI catch a cyberstalker. In a fairly lengthy post, the company reiterates that it never logs user activity. What it does do, however, is log the IP addresses of users accessing its service.

IPVanish

IPVanish, a VPN provider that for years claimed a strict no-logging policy, led Homeland Security to a suspect using a Comcast IP address, court papers filed in 2016 reveal. StackPath, the new operator of IPVanish, informs TorrentFreak that they won’t speak on behalf of the former team who have long since left the company. Assurances of security have been promised for the future, however.

HideMyAss, a VPN provider decided to fully cooperate with the FBI after  the indictment said that Kretsinger and other unknown conspirators conducted SQL injection attacks against Sony Pictures in attempt to extract confidential data.
